Boromir Returns

Spoiler Alert!

Back in 2001, like millions of others I went to the cinema to watch Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the Ring. I had read the books in the mid-1980s but had forgotten virtually the entire plot. I remembered that some guy with a broken sword appeared in it, there was the ring, and little else. I was enthralled by the film and even more so when Sean Bean suddenly appeared. A pleasant surprise for me. Immediately, Boromir became my favourite character and the events that followed confirmed my preference. But no! He dies! - I went to the cinema five times to see that film and watched the DVD countless times. What I call the ‘Boromir Edition’, i.e. starting only when Boromir arrives in Rivendell. And I reread the books.

I did not want Boromir to be dead, so I did what fanfiction writers do, I brought him back from the dead. - As did a very good friend of mine in her story Boromir’s Return.

I stopped writing at this point. Too long! Was Sarelas just a Mary Sue? But I wrote scenes that happen later in the story, both before and after I stopped writing the story chronologically. Including a piece that would fit more in a sequel than in ‘Boromir Returns’.

Here they are:
